Other Australian & New Zealand NewsAustralian Outsiders concludes landmark show in ParisDescribed as the first major exhibition of outsider art since 1990 Australian Outsiders - featuring around 200 artworks, mostly paintings and drawings, but also ceramics, sculpture and the amazing miniature houses of the late Javier Lara Gomez - recently concluded an historic season at the Halle St Pierre, premier Parisian venue for displays of outsider art. Before travelling to Paris this exciting exhibition was first shown at the Orange Regional Gallery where it was curated and was also seen in Sydney at the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery, 782 Kings Way, Gymea NSW (May - July 2006). Curated by poet and sculptor Phillip Hammial, who has been associated with the promotion of over seventeen exhibitions of outsider art world-wide in the past twenty years, assisted by Damian Michaels of Melbourne - a freelance curator and publisher of Art Visionary Magazine - it included works by such well-known artists in this genre as Tony Mannix, Gunther Deix and Silvia Convey and by some twenty other Australian outsider artists. Phillip Hammial curated the first large Australian show of outsider art - also staged at the Orange Regional Gallery in 1990. The exhibition was assisted by a grant from the NSW Ministry for the Arts. Note: Images of several works from the show appear opposite
