Outsider ArtWorld-wideRaw Vision MagazineUndoubtedly the best starting point for any exploration of ‘outsider’ art worldwide is Raw Vision magazine. Founded in 1989 by John Maizels, who still is its editor, Raw Vision is recognised as the world's pre-eminent journal of Intuitive and Visionary Art, Outsider Art, Art Brut, Contemporary Folk Art and Marginal Arts. Published quarterly it offers a wealth of articles, reviews and news from around the world, a wide range of publications including back copies of earlier issues and a host of links to artists, galleries and organisations in the world of outsider art. In 1998 it was adjudged by UNESCO as the World's Best Art Magazine. When you have exhausted this source (if you ever do!) here are some more suggestions. Agora Gallery, New York I was recently invited to establish a reciprocal link with this interesting New York gallery. Established in 1984 Agora represents a broad spectrum of emerging and established US and international artists over a wide range of styles and genres. See http://www.Agora-Gallery.com/ > Links > Acrylic> Recently Added Sites > Elizabeth Turnbull. Animal European Raw Art Magazine Following my involvement in The Other Face of the Moon in Italy in March 2006 I was invited to participate in this project which aims to promote outsider art through its web site, a magazine and associated outsider art events. The web site features the work of mainly, but not exclusively, European artists and a link to my contribution can be found at http://www.animalrawart.com/taxonomy_menu/1/1?from=10 Artesian Arts A Scottish recognised charity run by and for visionary, intuitive, grassroots and 'outsider' artists, ARTESIAN exists to promote this art and to provide a forum where the voices of the artists can be heard. Since its inception in 1999 ARTESIAN has established a regular magazine, an active web site and on-line gallery, an outreach programme, and a small publishing press for artists' books, in addition to holding six highly successful group exhibitions. It now promotes the work of some 150 artists and hopes to double this number in the coming year. Highly recommended - and also check out Inky Wings (see below) a really fun site created by Judith McNicoll, one of the friendly team who run Artesian. Located at http://www.artesian-arts.org/ bhag.net Describing itself as an"on-line magazine of visual and conceptual exchange" this site offers opportunities for writers and visual artists to present their work on the web and to join in discussions on a wide range of topics. You will find them at http://www.bhag.net/ Headfooters Gallery A dynamic Cleveland USA gallery specialising in exhibiting and selling outsider art from around the world. Also features interesting news and information on outsider art in general. Their web address is http://www.headfooters.com/artists.html Inky Wings This quirky site is the brainchild of Judith McNicoll, one of the Artesian team and herself a talented outsider artist in a variety of media. Do yourself a favour and check it out. The address NY Arts Magazine Closely associated with Piers Midwinter since 2005 in organising and promoting very successful Raw Arts Fetsivals in London, Valencia and New York, NY Arts Magazine can keep you in touch with everything that is going on across the whole arts scene in New York, the US and elsewhere. Jane's Addictions A cornucopia of visual and textual material on outsider art and artists and much more. A real Aladdin's cave - a must visit site! (Note: Unfortunately Jane's ill-health put this site out of action for some months but any disappointed surfers will be delighted to learn that it is up and running again at http://www.detourart.com/
